Taiping is the largest borough in Shuangxi District. It is the furthest upstream water source of Feicui Reservoir and is part of the water source protection area. As such, water quality is good and the low-level development preserves local natural ecological features. Residents mainly engage in farming, but in recent years they have also invested in the restoration of water terraces and friendly farming. Shiitake mushrooms, edible tree fungus, seasonal vegetables and melon crops are all very popular. A farmers’ market is held every holiday, where fresh and organic fruit and vegetables are displayed and sold. The Taiping Community Development Association also organizes occasional farming experience activities, allowing everyone to experience the fun of planting rice in the fields, harvesting crops and baking sweet potatoes in an earth oven.
