Zhuangwei is located in the northeast of Yilan County. It used to be the largest settlement of the Kavalan Indigenous peoples north of the river. Due to its location close to the sea and coastal area of the Lanyang Plain, it is the Nailanyang Plain Coastal center and enjoys exquisite coastal scenery.

In addition to its beautiful scenery, because the land in Zhungwei is fertile and excellent for planting crops it also produces bumper harvests of green onions and rice, especially the latter, securing it a reputation as one of Taiwan's top three “rice warehouses.”

Zhuangwei Township in Yilan is also known as the "Hometown of Hami Melons." Located on the lower reaches of Lanyang River it has flat sandy soil and plenty of sunlight, a blessed environment that makes the Hami melons particularly sweet and delicious!
