Dapinglin was originally named after an area of flat forest land. Surrounded on three sides by Xindian River and Jingmei River, it became an important ferry point for ships to load and unload cargo.

During the reign of Qing Emperor Qianlong (1735-1796), Guo Xiliu excavated a canal in the north, but the project was delayed for many years due to financial difficulties. Finally, the residents of Dapinglin Wuzhuang provided financial assistance in exchange for water rights and excavation works, and "Dapinglin Qingtan Canal" was completed. Today, the water diversion stone tunnel dug for farmland irrigation is preserved under "Kaitian Temple" in Xindian and is a Municipal Historic Site.

Today Dapinglin is the intersection station for Taipei's Songshan Xindian MRT Line and Circular Line. Convenient transportation has promoted regional development. "YES! LIFE Yulon City" to be opened in 2023 will combine flagship bookstores, department stores, restaurants and movie theaters. The Dapinglin area has gradually transformed into a popular business district in New Taipei City.
