Pingxi District is a mountain town through which the upper reaches of the Keelung River run. Stream erosion and stratigraphic changes have created the district's unique landscape and many old trails on Danlan National Greenway Middle Route are located near Pingxi District, including "Nuandong Old Trail," which has been a transport route from Nuannuan to Shifenliao since the Qing Dynasty; visitors who walk the "Wufenshan Trail," known as the "Little Great Wall," can see the "One-eyed Monk" pulling mine carts carrying tourists; "Fanzikeng Trail" connects Pingxi and Shuangxi; "Pinghu East and West Trails" surround what used to be Pinghu Forest Recreation Area"; "Dakengshan Ridge Trail" passes "Longmen-Shenmei Line 040" electric tower, a cross-shaped observation platform and the "Upper Neipinglin Trail," which belongs to the Neipinglin Mountain System.

Pingxi District is the birthplace of the "releasing sky lanterns" folk custom. Every day an endless number of visitors stand next to Pingxi Line railway, write their wishes onto the sky lanterns and watch the soaring happiness as the lit sky lanterns take to the sky.

Pingxi's "Jingtong Old Street," "Pingxi Old Street" and "Shifen Old Street" are also must-visit destinations. Buy a train ticket for the Pingxi branch line, visit all three streets and walk around the local alleys, where you can feel first-hand the ancient charm and human touch of a traditional street market.
