The start point for Shikong Historic Trail is located next to Wai-Ao Station in Yilan. Follow the stone steps up to start the hike. Visitors can also follow the signs from the Pingxi Historic Trail viewing platform to traverse Shikong Historic Trail and leave at Wai-Ao.
In contrast to the wide and paved Pingxi Historic Trail, Shikong Historic Trail retains the appearance of an original mountain forest route. The trail is more difficult than the Pingxi trail, but it is loved by hikers because of its original mountain forest feel.
Walking along the historic trail, visitors can also enjoy the spectacular sight of paragliders in the sky around Wai-Ao, as well as the bird's-eye view of the Yilan coastline and beaches of Wai-Ao.
