Dadaocheng got its name from a large area of land used to dry rice. After the opening of Tamsui Port, there were many business houses and Dadaocheng was transformed into a trading center for goods such as tea, cloth, and Chinese medicinal materials. It also attracted many foreign businessmen to set up shop in Taiwan. Today, Dihua Street in Dadaocheng preserves the gorgeous Baroque red color of that time and is also the main "New Year Goods Street" for the Lunar New Year, including a wide range of dry goods from the north and south, candies, biscuits, snacks, snacks, etc.

The Dadaocheng Cultural Trail on the Danlan Old Trail also takes Dihua Street as a main thoroughfare, forming a figure-eight circular route. On the way, it passes "Xiahai City God Temple," which was completed in 1859 and is a category three national historical relic, as well as "Cisheng Temple" and "Fazhugong Temple," which together are the three main temples of Dadaocheng. The "Dadaocheng Wharf" has been transformed into a tourist wharf, with a coffee and catering container market. It is also a prime area to watch the Dadaocheng fireworks show. Dadaocheng Presbyterian Church, founded by Dr. George Leslie Mackay in 1875, was built in imitation Gothic architectural style and combines the beauty of Chinese and Western styles. The original old chapel is directly integrated into the new chapel, making it a unique church building in Taiwan.
